US: 5G smartphone sales much lower than expected

There’s been a lot of talk about 5G smartphones and we know they’re here to stay. However, recent data shows that sales in the US in 2019 were much lower than expected.

Even with strong advertising and a variety of equipment, it seems that fifth-generation connectivity still does not convince most consumers.


US 5G smartphone sales far below expectations

The latest research indicates that in 2019, of all smartphones sold in the US, only 1% had 5G capabilities. The data comes from a market study by Counterpoint in conjunction with the NPD group.

But, according to Counterpoint’s Jeff Fieldhack:

There are a variety of reasons for the lower-than-expected 5G smart Albania Phone Number List hone sales in 2019. For example, AT&T and T-Mobile did not have widespread network coverage until late last year, and Verizon did not have many devices that could connect to the mmWave 5G network.

On the NPD side, there are some positive data, in the sense that, at least, Americans are more aware of the ultra-fast network. According to the company, in the 2nd quarter of 2019, 89% of those interviewed were already aware of the technology, an increase compared to 73% in the 1st quarter.
